I’ve been doing a lot of reading, a lot of agonizing over politics, a lot of musing, and have been trying really hard to keep my opinions to myself, these days.  Not a divisive person, but just one that wants to help people, and make them aware that they have a voice.

Sometimes, it just gets to be too much.  And then I get into trouble.  I really shouldn’t be afraid to announce my own right to the freedom of thought.  I digress.

Today’s topic is how we can help make our country great again.

I recently read in our local newspaper that the Marine and Navy reservists will once again be in Chenango County, here in upstate New York, to practice their remote services.  I used their service last year for my dental needs.  I was impressed with these people!  They are all professionals, they are amazing!  Their equipment is state of the art.  They are well organized.

I firmly believe that, if we help our fellow man, we can become a great nation once more.  Let’s stop this pettiness of issues.  Everyone is clamoring over their rights.  While it sounds so unfair (yes, I agree) that women make less than men, and something needs to be done about it, when did life become a competition with “hey, he’s got this and I don’t?  I agree that people should be paid the same for the same job, but then again, we have to consider, what is the motivation for the employer to offer the same salary?  Is there background there?  Or pure selfishness in thinking “well this person doesn’t deserve more?”  Is this a part of life, a person should be paid exactly what he/she and the employer have agreed upon, it’s none of their business should someone make more.  This is a fine line, I realize.  I’m not saying here that one way is right, the other is wrong, but I just want to say “isn’t this what freedom is about?”  Is this where communism comes in, everyone gets paid the same.  So, is communism wrong?  Does communism mean that even the president gets a wage equal to the worker in the field?  That’s the way communism SHOULD work.  And socialism?  Hey what?!  Either all the way or none!  It’s sort of a flip flop, isn’t it?

And public bathrooms!  An issue?  Really?  Okay, so have one bathroom, let the person lock the door and everyone else can stand in line.  Easy solution!  Why does it have to be a political one?

Many other issues I can touch upon, but this is enough for now, lest my readers become bored.

Let us live in the moment, embracing the grace that is ours today.  Love your family, do your work.  Find ways to overcome your situation today.  Seek help.  It has been proven to me that there is hope here in these United States.  Forget the promises of Washington, they are not our hope, our hope is in each other.

I have one life.  I want it to be lived with passion.  I want to put away fear and embrace life.  It’s my hyphen, after all.

  1. Hi Kathleen,
It’s interesting that you ramble lightly through so many things that bother you some. Many of the same things bother me. In reverse order:

Fear: That old bugaboo used to manipulate us into helping “Manufacture Consent”. Remember the Terror Threat Alert System from the 2004 election? Everytime Bush’s poll numbers dipped the terror alert went higher? Fear was used to manipulate us, Or attempt to. The same holds true today. We must fear Daesh; Mexican Rapists; Abortion: Guns; and mostly people who aren’t “like us”. It’s an old game, we should see through it, but we don’t.

Forget Washington, rely on each other: Of course. But we can’t. “Washington” being a euphemism for all government, it is an organism, or organization of a power hungry monster that serves its master, and that master is whomever can best control it for their own ends. Not your ends or to benefit you, theirs. Whether is be industry, pharma, Wall Street, Evangelicals, or the Anti-whatevers, they all seek power over your life to make theirs better.

Feminism, Socialism, Communism: Odd collection of .isms here. Socialism and Communism are often confused and lumped together. People that lump them together will often add Fascism to the mix. The three are very different, and only similar in that we were taught to fear Commies, Reds, Socialists, Fascists, Hitler and Khrushchev all at once during the cold war of the 50’s and 60’s, and the fear of these was used to manipulate us into the greatest travesty of my lifetime: the Vietnam War. Its all fear based. And that fear will be used to suppress the last of the items in this list. Feminism doesn’t belong in this list at all. I’m a feminist. I believe that the sexes (all 4 of them) should have equal protection under the law, equal pay for equal work, and hopefully, but it will never happen, be equal in the hearts and minds of fellow humans.

Make America Great Again: Again? What do you mean, again. We never stopped being great. But what is great anyway? How do you measure the greatness of a nation? Was Britain great during the height of the Empire? Was it great because it ruled places around the world by suppressing the native population and making them servants to the homeland? How should the USA be great? Police the world? Install “Democracy and Capitalism” everywhere? Conquer the world? Keep the Mexicans out? Or focus on ourselves, on our own country, spend the defense (war making) budget on helping our own citizens, as you found through Military Remote Services?

Freedom of Thought and Speech: Do you think we have this? Did you ever fear what you might type or enter into your phone because it might be monitored by some far away hacker, government agency or even a foreign government? Controlling your speech is next to controlling your thoughts. Some think “I don’t mind them snooping because I have nothing to hide” which is the same as saying “I don’t need freedom of speech because I have nothing to say.” We must continue to think for ourselves, to express ourselves, and disagree, even with our friends. We don’t have to hate people who don’t think like us, look like us, pray like us, or do anything like us. We don’t have to hate and fear at all.
